The Delicious Snack of Onion Rings
Crispy and sweet are the words used by most to describe the heavenly feeling of munching on onion rings. Onion rings origins are still debated online, although there are theories about it.
The first recipe for delicious and crunchy onion rings is thought to be in an 1802 cookbook by John Mollard called “The Art of Cookery Made Easy and Refined”, a little different from what is popular nowadays, and they were for fried onion rings with parmesan cheese. The recipes called for cream, flour, salt, and pepper with Parmesan cheese in the batter which is then deep-fried in boiling lard.
A business that sells this delicious snack also invests in some heavy equipment that will aid their mass-scale production, with an onion slicer machine and deep-frying machine for an optimally run, hassle-free business.
When was it popularized?
Onion rings truly started to get popular after a Crisco recipe for onion rings with their bottle of oil, which instructed to simply dip in milk and then flour and deep-fried. However, it is truly popularized by a man in Nebraska, named Sam Quigley, who provided restaurant owners with breaded and frozen onion rings, ready to fry and serve. This is when the onion ring became popular and highly sought-after.
By the 1960s, A & W Chain added it to the menu for their restaurants, The rest is history, and today is one of the most beloved and popular snacks in the United States, second possibly to French fries and potato chips. The onion slicer is one of the main components in the mass-scale production of onion rings that are crispy and perfect to eat.
